Indian Political News-Minister launches Rail Ticket Booking Via SMS-Newsmasthi.com
Indian Political Video News-Indian railways today launched SMS-based ticketing with two dedicated numbers - 139 and 5676714 - for the service.
"In order to give improved customer service and empower the common man who does not have access to internet and cannot afford to buy smart phones, we are today launching SMS ticket booking service", Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said.
He said the service will particularly be useful for labourers staying away from home as they will find the service convenient as well as cost-effective and they will not have to travel to booking counters and forgo the earnings for a day.
Ticket booking through non-internet based mobile, launched as a pilot project by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), will also help Railways overcome the menace of touts who fleece unsuspecting people, Kharge said.

Politcial News-Gay marriages supported by America Supreme Court-Newsmasthi.com
WASHINGTON (AP) — In a historic day for gay rights, the Supreme Court gave the nation's legally married gay couples equal federal footing with all other married Americans on Wednesday and also cleared the way for same-sex marriages to resume in California.
In deciding its first cases on the issue, the high court did not issue the sweeping declaration sought by gay rights advocates that would have allowed same-sex couples to marry anywhere in the country. But in two rulings, both by bare 5-4 majorities, the justices gave gay marriage supporters encouragement in confronting the nationwide patchwork of laws that outlaw such unions in roughly three dozen states.
Gay-rights supporters cheered and hugged outside the court. Opponents said they mourned the rulings and vowed to keep up their fight.

Indian Political News| Gas Price Hikes Meet At Cabinet-Newsmasthi.com
Indian Oil & gas sector companies were witnessing buying action in trade in anticipation of a hike in natural gas prices for the first time in three years.
The Oil Ministry's proposal to price all domestically produced natural gas as per a complex international hub and imported LNG-based formula suggested by the Rangarajan panel will be taken up by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting.
If approved, gas price will rise to $6.775 per million British thermal unit from $4.2 currently. The rates will jump to $8.55 in April 2014.
The CCEA had deferred the proposal to hike natural gas prices by a steep 60 per cent last week as Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily was away on an official tour.
Meanwhile, the power and fertiliser ministries have strongly opposed the move as it would result in cost of electricity generation rising to unviable levels and steep jump in urea subsidy.
