Ap Video News-Gotta barrage on Vamshadhara in danger-Newsmasthi.com

An estimated one lakh cusecs flowing into the Vamsadhara river and 31,000 cusecs into Nagavali river by Saturday afternoon made the district administration declare a state of high alert.

Both the rivers reached danger levels with about 200 mm rainfall recorded in the catchment area upstream in Orissa and the resultant heavy inflow of floodwaters. Fishermen were advised against venturing into the sea.

Flood warning
A breach in Vamsadhara canal at Kuntabhadra in Kothuru mandal is giving anxious moments to people living nearby.

However, with the waters flowing back into the river, there was no immediate danger to people. At Gotta barrage across Vamsadhara, the first flood warning was sounded when inflows reached 44,190 cusecs by 4 p.m. and about 400 acres of paddy fields were inundated.
