Jharkhand News-Jharkhand Student Leader Mistaken For Maoist, Beaten To Death-Newsmasthi.com

Deoghar, Jharkhand: A Jharkhand student leader and his driver were beaten to death today allegedly by villagers who mistook them for Maoists.

Mukesh Singh, 35, the district president of the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), was killed by villagers at Kumarabad, four km from the district headquarter Deoghar where he was headed.

"It was a clear case of mistaken identity," said a police officer.

The police say the villagers were patrolling the area for Maoists, when they saw the activist's car and stopped it. The villagers had long suspected that Maoists were behind a string of robbery, loot and murder incidents in the area.

Singh reportedly tried to argue with the villagers that he was not a Maoist and showed them a sign on his car that identified him as the district president of AJSU.

But the villagers did not let him go. When he finally tried to escape, they allegedly chased him and beat him to death.

Two multi-storey buildings, constructed under a housing scheme for economically weaker sections, collapsed in the early hours in Atladara on Wednesday. The housing was planned by theVadodara Urban Development Authority(VUDA).

Indian News-Markets Tank, Rupee Plunges To 66 vs $; Brace For Fuel Price Hike-Newsmasthi.com

New Delhi: The economic scenario turned more gloomy on Tuesday with therupee tumbling to a fresh low and breaching 66 vs the US dollar. The markets crashed too with the Sensex falling over 600 points during the intraday trade and finally closed 590.05 points down.
Crude oil prices also crossed $ 110 per barrel while gold futures touched a record high of Rs 32,500. While these prices have gone up, more price hikes are set to hit the common man soon.
A steep hike in diesel price is likely after the end of the monsoon session of Parliament. Sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that there is a need to hike the diesel price by at least Rs 5 per litre. The ministry feels that a Rs 3 per litre diesel price hike is meaningless when under-recoveries are over Rs 10 per litre.

Indian Political News-Food Security Bill Passes in Loksabha-Newsmasthi.com

The Lok Sabha on Monday night passed the ambitious National Food Security Bill, 2013 that seeks to provide highly subsidised food grains to nearly 70 per cent of the population of the country.
Dubbed as a “game-changer,” the flagship measure of the UPA government will legally entitle 67 per cent of the population (including 75 per cent rural and 50 per cent urban) to get subsidised grains under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS). A beneficiary will be entitled to 5 kg of rice, wheat or coarse cereals at Rs. 3, Rs. 2 and Re. 1 per kg a month, respectively. The beneficiaries will be identified by the States based on parameters prescribed by the Union government.
On a day when the historic legislation was being voted, Congress president Sonia Gandhi — who was the force behind the Bill and dubbed it an “empowerment revolution” — could not see the passage of the Bill as she took ill in the House late in the evening. She was rushed to the AIIMS after complaining of high fever. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Leader of the House Sushil Kumar Shinde sat through the proceedings in the House.
The government had promulgated an Ordinance to this effect in July which had to be replaced by the Bill in the current monsoon session of Parliament to make it a law.

World News-Will America Go to War Against Syria-Newsmasthi.com

The Syrian revolution has turned into a civil war, with over 40,000 people dead, adding to the instability of the Middle East. The conflict continues to keep the Arab, European and American foreign ministers and diplomats awake at night. This seems to be hopefully coming to an end, if one connects the dots and sees what the EU foreign ministers, the Russians and last but not least the American establishment are doing. The potential use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime may be the tipping point and if that is the case, then Assad’s days may actually be numbered. This time around, American involvement may speed things up and help deliver justice to the Syrian people. Here are five reasons why I believe the U.S administration will take the lead and help topple the Assad regime

Indian News-High Tension in Ayodhya with VHP's Parikram Yatra-Newsmasthi.com

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government put in place a massive security build-up across the state to foil a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) bid to stage a religious event in Ayodhya Sunday. The Hindu group's leaders announced a national stir against the crackdown.
While hundreds of VHP activists and seers were arrested from different parts of the state for trying to carry out the "84 kosi parikrama yatra", VHP's top leaders were detained in Lucknow and Ayodhya.

Home department officials told IANS the situation was peaceful across the state.

Almost 1,700 people were detained for breaching prohibitory orders, the officials said.

Senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal, who was arrested soon after he landed at the Amausi airport here and was packed off to Nawabganj bird sanctuary guest house in neighbouring Unnao district, slammed the Akhilesh Yadav government for the crackdown.

Noting he had come to be part of a peaceful ritual of saints but was prevented to go to Ayodhya, the 87-year-old leader also warned the state government not to play with the sentiments of Hindus.

AP News- Jagan Mohan Reddy Hunger Stike Live Updates-Newsmasthi.com

Hyderabad/Guntur: Security was enhanced around the Chanchalguda Central Prison in Hyderabad on Sunday where jailed YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has announced to go on an indefinite fast after police on Saturday broke the fast-unto-death of his mother Y.S. Vijayalakshmi to protest the move to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh amid high drama in Guntur city.
Jagan refused to take food during lunch and dinner which was served to him at the Chanchalguda Central Prison on Sunday.
However, jail authorities said that they did not get any information from Jagan about his fasting.
"He (Jagan) has not given us any representation on his fast. He has to give in writing and inform but so far there is no intimation," Chanchalguda jail superintendent B Saidaiah told PTI.
Amid reports that Jagan did not have his breakfast this morning, the jail official said, "It is only after 12 hours we will be able to make an official statement with regard to his fast."
As a precautionary measure, security was beefed up around Chanchalguda central prison with deployment of additional personnel from city police and also para-military forces, another senior police official said.
Kadapa MP Jagan had said he would take up from where his mother left off from and declared that he would go on an indefinite hunger strike at the Chanchalguda Jail from Sunday.
With Vijayalakshmi’s health deteriorating and her sugar levels falling, the police forcibly shifted her to the GGH for treatment early on Saturday morning, but not without incidents.
YSRC leaders Y.V. Subba Reddy, Sobha Nagi Reddy and Vasireddy Padma tried to stop the police.
In the ensuing melee, an activist fell down from the dais and sustained injuries.
At the hospital, too, Vijayalakshmi rejected treatment in the intensive care unit for a while.
She relented only after Jagan Mohan Reddy called up Subba Reddy and requested him to convince her to accept treatment.

The injured were taken to Naval Hospital INHS Kalyani just opposite the HPCL main gate.

Mumbai-Mumbai Gang Rape Case One Accused Held 4 Others Identified-Newsmasthi.com

Acting swiftly, Mumbai Police on Friday cracked the gangrape case of a young photojournalist, arresting one of the accused within 24 hours of the incident and identifying four others, including two criminals, for whom a massive manhunt has been launched.

"We have arrested one of the accused who has named the others involved in the incident. The accused has also confessed to the crime," Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh told reporters.

An earlier report attributed to the police had said two accused had been arrested. Senior Congress leader Murli Deora said five suspects have been arrested. "This case has been cracked. Five persons have been arrested and are in the lock-up," he had earlier told reporters.

Singh said more than 20 teams, including 10 from the Crime Branch, have been pressed into service to track down the perpetrators.

The city police chief declined to divulge the identities of the accused lest the probe in the "extremely sensitive" case gets compromised but said two of them were history sheeters with property offences registered against them.

A top police officer, however, identified the arrested accused as Mohammed Abdul alias Chand, while he named others as Vijay Jadhav, Qasim Bengali, Saleem and Ashfaq.

Asked about the condition of the victim, 22, an intern with an English magazine, he said she was "composed and stable".

Indian Political News-Akhilesh's Govt Bans VHP Yatra; Ayodhya Braces For a Showdown-Newsmasthi.com

LucknowAyodhya in Uttar Pradesh is a heavily fortified town as it gears up for its latest political challenge.

In four days from now, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad or the VHP plans to set off on a 300-km yatra around Ayodhya to revive its demand for a Ram temple, despite the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh having banned the yatra. This has brought the ruling Samajwadi Party in political confrontation with the VHP and other affiliates of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS, one of which is the BJP.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said yesterday, "By banning it, they have brought the issue on the centerstage, which the Uttar Pradesh government could have well avoided."

On Tuesday, the UP government said it was rejecting the VHP's request for permission for the yatra, called the 84 Kos Parikrama, only some time after senior Samajwadi Party minister Azam Khan criticised his party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's meeting with VHP leaders for two hours of talks at the weekend.

A day later, the Samajwadi Party government announced a big package for minorities in Uttar Pradesh which includes 20 per cent of allocations for minorities in 85 welfare schemes of the state, seen by many as an attempt at damage limitation. The Samajwadi Party counts the 18 per cent Muslim voters in UP as a primary vote base.

Karsewakpuram, the hub of big religious functions in Ayodhya, is deserted. There is no activity to suggest that a big yatra of seers and saints will begin here on Sunday.  But the rhetoric is building. Satendra Das, a senior VHP functionary, says, "The government may have banned this yatra but we will continue. We will start the first leg on the 25th morning."

AP Political News-Asaduddin Owaisi Meets Sonia Gandhi To Discuss Rayala Telangan-Newsmasthi.com

HYDERABAD: Majlis-e-IttehadulMuslimeen (MIM) supremo and MP AsaduddinOwaisi met Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence at 10 Janpath in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the status of Hyderabad and the inclusion of parts of Rayalaseema with the proposed Telangana state.

Sources from the Congress said Owaisi, who has come to terms with the bifurcation of the state, met Sonia Gandhi in the afternoon to persuade her not to make Hyderabad a Union Territory (UT).

"Asad spoke to the Congress president and urged her not to make the city a UT," a senior Congress leader, who did not wish to be named, said. Asad also spoke for the integration of Anantapur and Kurnool districts which are in Rayalseema, which has a Muslim population of around 13%, with the future T state.

"There will be balance of Assembly seats if Rayala-Telangana is created as the seats in T which are 119 now ill cross the 145 mark if the two Rayalaseema districts are added. This would also increase Muslim concentration," said another party source.

Indian News-16 years Girl Accuses Asaram Bapu Of Sexual Assault-Newsmasthi.com

Spiritual guru Asaram Bapu was on Tuesday booked by the Delhi Police for allegedly raping a minor girl of Jodhpur.

The complainant - a teen from the Rajasthan town - has accused the 72-year-old self-styled godman of sexually assaulting her at his ashram earlier this month.

A case was registered under Sections 376 (rape), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) at Kamla Market police station and the police were looking into the matter.

According to police sources, the girl told her parents, who were staunch supporters of the guru, about her ordeal on August 17 and they approached the police two days later. The police sent her to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital for medical examination when sexual assault on the girl was confirmed.

The victim told police that the guru had called her in the name of a religious ceremony at his Jodhpur ashram, where he allegedly assaulted her sexually. Her parents were shocked to know that the man whom they revered raped their daughter, the police said.

Indian Political News-BJP- SP Fight over VHP yatra-Newsmasthi.com

The Uttar Pradesh government and the Vishwa Hindu Parsihad (VHP) are at loggerheads over the proposed 84 Kosi Parikrama in Ayodhya which is scheduled to begin on August 26.

The VHP is in no mood to shelve its plans for the programme though the government gave its in principle go-ahead earlier.

VHP president Ashok Singhal warned the state government of "adverse consequences" if it used force to enforce the ban.

Singhal also attacked SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav for trying to communalise the yatra by denying permission to them.

"We were shocked when we came to know of the government's decision. The leader representing Muslims in his party had showed his displeasure over the meeting and Yadav apparently succumbed under pressure," Singhal said in an apparent reference to Azam Khan, who is the urban development minister in the UP government.

General elections are due next year in the country with the BJP's PM-hopeful Narendra Modi eager to contest from Uttar Pradesh. Some SP leaders have slammed the VHP for playing to Modi's tunes by polarising the state along communal lines in the runup to poll year. Naresh Agarwal of the SP said why were the VHP and its seers holding the yatra a year before the polls and not in previous years.

Whereas, the UP government is also firm on its stand of not allowing the yatra. The UP govt on Wednesday increased security and sealed boundaries in six districts adjoining Ayodhya.
