Jharkhand News-Jharkhand Student Leader Mistaken For Maoist, Beaten To Death-Newsmasthi.com

Deoghar, Jharkhand: A Jharkhand student leader and his driver were beaten to death today allegedly by villagers who mistook them for Maoists.

Mukesh Singh, 35, the district president of the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), was killed by villagers at Kumarabad, four km from the district headquarter Deoghar where he was headed.

"It was a clear case of mistaken identity," said a police officer.

The police say the villagers were patrolling the area for Maoists, when they saw the activist's car and stopped it. The villagers had long suspected that Maoists were behind a string of robbery, loot and murder incidents in the area.

Singh reportedly tried to argue with the villagers that he was not a Maoist and showed them a sign on his car that identified him as the district president of AJSU.

But the villagers did not let him go. When he finally tried to escape, they allegedly chased him and beat him to death.

Two multi-storey buildings, constructed under a housing scheme for economically weaker sections, collapsed in the early hours in Atladara on Wednesday. The housing was planned by theVadodara Urban Development Authority(VUDA).

"Eleven persons died and three sustained injuries in the incident. We are focusing on rescue operations as the priority is to save as many lives as possible," said Vadodara BJP MP, Balkrishna Shukla.

Most of the residents are either engaged in labour work or middle-level jobs. "We had approached VUDA and informed them about cracks in the building walls and ceilings. But, no one responded and instead we were driven out of VUDA office," said Manish Jadhav, resident of block 15.

According to the residents of the colony, one of the two collapsed buildings had 14 apartments of which 11 were occupied. Indian News-Markets Tank, Rupee Plunges To 66 vs $; Brace For Fuel Price Hike-Newsmasthi.com

New Delhi: The economic scenario turned more gloomy on Tuesday with therupee tumbling to a fresh low and breaching 66 vs the US dollar. The markets crashed too with the Sensex falling over 600 points during the intraday trade and finally closed 590.05 points down.
Crude oil prices also crossed $ 110 per barrel while gold futures touched a record high of Rs 32,500. While these prices have gone up, more price hikes are set to hit the common man soon.
A steep hike in diesel price is likely after the end of the monsoon session of Parliament. Sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that there is a need to hike the diesel price by at least Rs 5 per litre. The ministry feels that a Rs 3 per litre diesel price hike is meaningless when under-recoveries are over Rs 10 per litre.
