Patna: The death toll reached 35 as the Rajya Rani Express ran over many people at the Dhamara station near Saharsa in on Monday morning. Over 40 others injured in the accident have been taken to a hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver of the train has been critically injured after being beaten up by angry locals. The agitating mob also set the and another train on fire.
The railway authorities say the train was running on its scehduled route (to Patna) and was not scheduled to stop at the Dhamara station. "It's a three-track station. Two trains were already standing at the station. and the crowd was moving on the third track. A super fast train was coming on that track and they were run over," Arunendra Kumar said.
